Brazilian Football Federation’s president Ricardo Teixeira has written a letter to update everyone on the country’s preparations for the 2014 World Cup. As you probably know, Brazil were the only ones who submitted a bid and they’d be damned if they don’t win the cup on home soil.
The exciting Brasileirao League means that every city in Brazil has their own unique football culture so it will be interesting to see which cities eventually get to host a game. I actually think that the 2014 World Cup will fantastic to market and brand. Whoever comes up with the ads will have such a great time brainstorming! Pele, Romario, Garrincha, Socrates, Ronaldinho.. so many greats to choose from!

The World Cup in 2014 is entering a decisive stage. Next March, FIFA will announce the chosen cities as headquarters of the biggest sporting event in the world – which will take place in Brazil. The ideal number of headquarters would be twelve cities but it must fit FIFA’s requirements.
There will be questions about the current infrastructure – the availability of transport and hotels will be important. But other aspects, like the city’s footballing tradition, ability to carry out events, support from the society and leaders will also be considered. In the end, FIFA will also consider how each city (in Brazil) can contribute to the marketing of the event.
The focus right now is to work hard. The more consistent we are, the better. Whichever cities are chosen to host a game or participate in a different event – Brazil, as a country, will still be hosting the World Cup. Good luck to all and good work!
RICARDO TEIXEIRA – President of the Brazilian Confederation of Futebol (CBF)
